Canada ranks in top third of countries with the highest rate of suicide yet has no national strategy in place in order to reduce the number of deaths. Each years hundreds of people go missing in Canada and a large percent of the missing will commit suicide, a heartache for the family and friends to live with. About 3500 Canadians commit suicide every year and thousands more attempt suicide, some with devastating injuries that cause permanent disabilities.
Tim Wall, who is the executive director of the Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention says,”The government of Canada contributes to the stigma and the problem of suicide by its silence, rather than publicly and vigorously declaring its support for suicide prevention.”
