I have been wondering how many people are missing in BC and when I read the article in the Province Newspaper the comment by the Coroner who identified the hiking boot found in October 2011 in a Port Moody lake jumped out at me…. “But there are 2,300 missing people in BC so it’s a little short-sighted to assume it’s the individual,” he said. Wow 2300 people missing just in BC! Obviously the 2300 people the coroner was quoted as saying are missing in BC span from at least 25 years ago. Still that’s a lot of families and friends of a missing person sitting in limbo, not knowing what happened to their loved one, just wondering and waiting. Wonder how many people are missing in other provinces across Canada…..
Recently there was a Story in the Vancouver Sun about 67 men between the ages of 15-30 missing from the lower mainland between 2000-2012. I wonder what the number would be for all BC and for all of Canada? I still find it hard to believe that so many young healthy men could just vanish into thin air and no one has seen anything…or have they? This is why we need a Provincial Data Bank of all the Missing People of BC linked to a Data Bank of all the other Missing People of Canada by the Province! There could be similarities that we are not seeing by only concentrating on the missing men of BC and really we don’t know the details of all the missing men, and many other missing people of BC, young, old, male, female…. only the ones that have made the news.
The similarities that I have noticed with the Missing Young Men of BC:
Healthy Good Looking Men
All have gone missing and no one has seen anything, no sign of a struggle.
No a trace of them has been found, no clothing, no wallets or identification
Many of the men have gone missing late at night, quite often after the bar has closed
Keeping in mind that there have been men that have gone missing that are older than 30 but look much younger
I know I have said this many other times but it is just so important that a Canadian National DNA Data Bank is formed for all the Missing People of Canada. http://www.gopetition.com/petition/41301/signatures.html

Thank you for posting this. It’s almost impossible to believe after 25 years answers can come forward, that remains can still resurface and be identified. And how wonderful for this family, even though they had many signs indicating what must have happened, to actually know, have this long wait and wondering over. And wonderful for families of loved ones still missing, knowing there is always hope we may have answers and a chance to heal from this in our lifetime too.
It’s appalling the number of missing people there are in BC, and 67 men just in the lower mainland, and that we don’t have a proper data bank to hold DNA! The process could be so simplified with this, and these people could then be connected to the national data bank which could open up the opportunity for more and better understanding, procedures, and solutions! Why is this so hard to see the value and urgency of?
Your radio interview was so great Wendy, have you thought, or is it possible to send that off to a politician? Do you use Facebook as a way of getting this out there too? Petitions etc? Would be great to do some rallies..demonstrations in front of politicians doors. I’ve often thought of approaching Wally Opal.
Thank you again for everything you do.

Thankyou for your comment. It’s so sad that more and more families are living with the horror of a missing loved one. Thankyou for listening to the radio interview. I have a Facebook page “Missing People of BC Canada” as well as my own Facebook and I promote the Petition for National Missing DNA Bank. Hopefully we can get at least 10000 signatures. This is so badly needed
Wendy.

Thanks Wendy, Facebook is a good way to get the message out for sure, and the stories. I was shocked the other day to learn a teenage girl in New York who had been missing for 5 months was immediately found after her story went on the program ‘The View’. Now that’s the kind of coverage we all wish for!
